Trans Up Front in the media!
Fulfilling a central point of our mission, we are providing a voice for trans people in the media, combating misinformation.
Trans Up Front is a nonprofit organization. While we remain dedicated to providing our resources and advocacy to anyone, regardless of ability to pay, we encourage becoming a paid subscriber through our Substack to support our cause or donate on our website.
One of the central missions of Trans Up Front, and inspiration for the name of the organization, is that the voices of transgender people should be centered in the discussion about transgender rights. Too often the media has functioned as an echo chamber, simply repeating the language in the executive order, amplifying misinformation. We’ve written about this before, here.
Since starting Trans Up Front less than two months ago, we have done a total of 15 interviews with various media outlets. 4 of those interviews were regarding our protest outside of Lurie Children’s Hospital, because of their elimination of gender affirming surgical services, 2 were regarding the increase in attacks on transgender people and rights nationally, and 9 were in the past two weeks regarding the Deerfield School District 109 school board meeting and the continued attacks on a transgender middle schooler’s access to school facilities.
When we speak with the media, we speak not only as transgender people and parents of a trans teen, but also as professionals citing legislation and statistics serving to disprove misinformation. We still have a lot of work to do, and there are media outlets that will never tell our story, but transgender voices are being heard in some spaces.
Here is some of the media coverage:
WBEZ - Hundreds gather outside Lurie Children’s Hospital to protest youth gender care change
Chicago Tribune - ‘It’s more urgent now’: Protests have taken over Chicago. Here’s what to know.
Trans Up Front also has a live radio interview scheduled for this Sunday, March 23rd at 11:45am on Out Chicago, 820 AM
Join us, Sunday March 30th at 1pm, at Federal Plaza in Chicago to demand that transgender people be seen, heard, and respected. Join us to demand our rights be honored and upheld.
