Trans Up Front Condemns the Continued Rollbacks of Gender Affirming Care at Lurie Children's Hospital
Official Statement
Lurie Children’s Hospital announced today that it will no longer offer gender-affirming medications for patients younger than 18 who have not previously been treated with those medications at Lurie. This announcement has created fear and uncertainty for transgender youth and their families. Let us be clear: this is pre-compliance. No hospital system has lost federal funding. No court has ruled. No law has changed. What we are witnessing is the result of pressure designed to intimidate health care providers and families before any enforcement has occurred.
That matters because fear should never be allowed to replace facts, and political pressure should never override evidence-based, patient-centered care.
Trans Up Front exists because we are one community. We are parents, caregivers, providers, advocates, and neighbors. We are here to make sure no child is left behind. That includes ensuring families are not left alone to navigate a rapidly shifting and deliberately confusing landscape.
Our Gender Affirming Care Navigation System remains active. We will continue helping families understand their options, access affirming care, and connect to trusted providers and resources. We are here to walk alongside you, not just today, but for as long as it takes.
We also recognize that moments like this take a real toll on mental health. If you or your child are struggling, please know that support is available right now:

Reaching out is not weakness. It is survival. And survival is an act of resistance.
We are angry because children are being used as political leverage.
We are resolute because fear will not decide their futures.
We are here, we will endure, and we will make sure no one is left behind.
